The Alvarez's-who are they?

Let me tell about them if I may,

They came from Spain and Mexico to stay,

Wind, storm or rain could not keep them away.

They befriended or fought the Indian as had to be,

All knew life in this land was not a cup of tea,

God gave them sky, land and sea,

For them to use and oversee.

The Alvarez's spread throughout the land,

To cultivate their lives and fame,

Very bravely the wilderness to tame,

To give Tejas her name.

Then the güero or bolio came,

Treating them with disrespect and disdain,

Fraudulently taking their God-given land,

Even wanting to change their name.

Today the Alvarez name continues to stand,

Through many wars they have fought valiantly for this land,

Francisca a Heroine of Tejas lore and fame,

She was an Alvarez tambien!
