Gilbert Omar Alvarez, number 8, a
quarterback for Friends University in Wichita, Kansas, and his brother
Orlando Alvarez, number 14, a quarterback for Plano East Senior High
were selected to participate with the U.S.A. All Star Football
Team against the Spain Teams in Madrid and Barcelona. Mr. Gilbert R.
Alvarez was selected as the Head Football Coach for the U.S.A. team. |

Robert (Bobby) Romeo Ramirez (Frenchie)
Sept. 14, 1946 - Feb. 03, 2009
Mr. Robert R. Ramirez, 62, of Palestine, Texas passed away Tuesday, February 03, 2009 at the East Texas Medical Center in Athens, Texas of a sudden illness. He will be creamated.
Funeral services for Mr. Ramirez are as follows: a Rosary to be held on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at 6:30 PM at Herrington Funeral Home Chapel located at 3434 S. Loop 256, Palestine, Texas. A mass will be held on Friday, February 20, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Palestine, Texas. Father Harold Paulsen will be officiating.
Mr. Ramirez was born in Kingsville, Texas to Jose T. Ramirez (El Lobo) and Rebecca Alvarez Ramirez of Palestine, Texas on September 14, 1946. He is preceded in death by both parents and a brother SSGT Raul Louis Ramirez USAF of San Antonio, Texas.
He is survived by his son: Robert Romeo Ramirez II and wife Anna R. Bergmann of Chantilly, Virginia, three grandchildren: Robert Joseph, Michael Paul and Caroline Grace, Brothers Joe. T. Ramirez Jr. of Red Oak, Texas, Rudy A. Ramirez and wife Gloria of Palestine, Texas and a sister Rebecca Ramirez Shokrian also of Palestine, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also soon to be a grandfather again in May 2009 to twin girls.
Mr. Ramirez was a 4th Direct Descendant of Doña Señora Francisca Alvarez (The Angel of Goliad). He worked for the Texas Dept. of Corrections, the Oil Field Industry and in recent years was self-employed where he loved to buy, sell and trade merchandise. He enjoyed bargaining and talking to people. He loved to salt and fresh water fish, hunt all games and was avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys.

on April 6, 2006. Marina is survived by:

On June 1st 2004, Rebecca McDaniel (Alvarez) passed
away after a long fight with cancer, her children Colleen Morrow
Fresno Ca. county employee, Becky Ballestieri, Manager Club One Casino
Fresno Ca. Michael Mc Daniel, Investigator/Interpreter, Federal
Defender, U.S. District Court, and Randall S. McDaniel, as well as all
the other members of the McDaniel/Alvarez family will miss her dearly.

Reynaldo Ruiz Alvarez, Sr.
age 80, a local businessman and member of a pioneer family of South
Texas and a long-time resident of Corpus Christi, passed away in
Corpus Christi, Texas on Sunday, October 23, 2005 with his family at
his side, after a long illness. He was a devoted husband and loving
father. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor, common
sense, kindheartedness and will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Reynaldo, the son of Pablo Garza Alvarez of the King Ranch and
Angelita Ruiz Alvarez of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, was born in Riviera,
Texas on November 22, 1924. As a child, Reynaldo grew up and worked on
the King Ranch where his father was employed. His grandfather, Luis
Alvarez and his great-grandfather, Matias Alvarez came from Matamoros,
Mexico in 1884 at the request of Capt. Richard King to work on the
Santa Gertrudis Ranch (later called the King Ranch). Many of their
descendant’s still live and work today on the King Ranch. In the
mid-1930’s his family moved to Corpus Christi where he attended local
schools.
During World War II he served with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific.
He fought in seven major battles, landing U.S. Marines at
Bougainville, Tinian, Saipan, Peleliu (Palau), Leyte, Luzon, and
Okinawa. Upon his return from the war he married Adela Gonzalez in
1946, attended Del Mar College and later went into the real estate
business.
He was retired from the City of Corpus Christi where he worked as a
right-of-way agent in their Property & Land Acquisition Dept. for over
35 years. Prior to his employment with the City, he worked as a
right-of-way agent for Nueces County and helped negotiate and purchase
the land for the Harbor Bridge for the county. Previous to that he
worked as a real estate broker for N.O. Simmons Development Co. He was
also the owner of several businesses, including the Avalon Drug Store,
Globe Finance Co., Ray Alvarez Realty Co., and part owner of the
Hoover Hotel. In the mid-1950’s and early 1960’s he was very active
with the Corpus Christi Board of Realtors and other related
associations and organizations. He was a member of several civic,
service and social organizations, including the Optimist Club, the
Knights of Columbus #2710, the Sceptre Club, and the Instituto de
Cultural Hispanica. In March of 2005 he was honored at the Corpus
Christi Country Club by the Texas Real Estate Commission for over 50
years of service to the real estate industry.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Pablo
R. Alvarez, Jr. of Riviera, Texas and another brother, Roel Alvarez of
San Antonio, Texas.
Reynaldo is survived by his wife of 59 years, Adela Gonzalez Alvarez;
one son; Reynaldo G. Alvarez, Jr. (Sandra) of Austin, Texas; two
daughters, Norma Nelda Alvarez (Al Garcia) of Kingsville, Texas and
Patricia A. Peck (Jon) of Louisville, Kentucky; one sister, Dora R.
Maldonado (Alberto) of Kingsville, Texas; six grandchildren and
several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Funeral Home (Holly Rd.), Corpus Christi, Texas is in charge
of funeral arrangements. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. on
Tuesday, October 25, 2005 at the Corpus Christi Cathedral and will
follow with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m.
Visitation will resume at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at
the Corpus Christi Cathedral and will follow with a Funeral Mass to be
celebrated at 3:00 p.m. Burial, with military honors, will follow at
Seaside Memorial Cemetery.
The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation to the
staff of the Holmgreen Center at Trinity Towers especially the 4 & 5
Floor staff.
Pallbearers will be: Stephen Alvarez, Sonny Garza, Alonzo Gonzalez,
Jr., Arnulfo Gonzalez, Jr., Lee Martinez, George Moncada and Joe
Moncada. His Honorary Pallbearers will be: Alvino Campos, Joe Guzman,
Robero Lozano, Dr. C. G. Oliveira, Horacio Oliveira, Sr., Alvaro
Saenz, Alex Sanchez and Victor Lara Ortegon.
